Living in Oklahoma has many advantages but our severe weather is always a challenge to live with. I am not afraid of our weather but have a healthy respect for it. We have the best meterologists and warning systems in the country !
Last week we had damaging tornadoes and today we had baseball size hail that shredded trees, foilage in most of northwest Oklahoma City and broke out windows in our neighbors home. Car damage is widespread and our son's car was heavily damaged. My garden looks like a weedeater went wild in my flower beds. Oklahoman's are resilient people and even though I'm not a native I've been here long enough to be affected by their positive attitudes and willingness to always lend a helping hand. We are fine and thanking God for keeping us safe...(others nearby lost everything last week) We know things can be replaced and homes can be rebuilt, so as long as we are safe we are thankful. So in Oklahoman fashion we go on and put it behind us, roll up our sleeves and get to work.

So with that said, after the hail storm had passed I was determined to get back to my routine. I set a pretty table for two and choose my favorite color scheme -blue and yellow (always cheers me up)
Almost everything was purchased at an antique mall or thrift store over the past year. When I travel I always check out local thrift stores in the area..it's fun to go to new places and I have fun memories that go along with my purchases when I get home.
The tablecloth was $6.00 at a craft mall in Austin, Texas and I love this shade of blue with the tiny white flowers. The napkins and matching placemats were purchased at Chick-a-dees in Wimberly, Texas one of my favorite Texas towns to shop in! I was so excited to find them as I already had the perfect plates to coordinate with them.
I layered beautiful blue plates from Portugal with these fabulous Furio plates from Italy! I bought all four Italian plates for $5.oo at an antique mall in Ardmore, Oklahoma. I saw the same plate for $9.00 each on ebay. I am still looking for more matching pieces.
I used my lemon yellow topiary from Marshall's bought on clearance for a centerpiece. On each side I placed a blue and white candlestick I purchased many years ago at Hobby Lobby for half-price.
The cobalt blue teapot was purchased at the Fiesta factory outlet store in Canton, Texas. ( all the girls I work with went on a little "road-trip") What a shopping extravaganza are the Canton Market Days! Take comfy shoes!!
I love my Pier One sunflower plates and thought it would be fun to use them as saucers for the teapot and teacups.
A friend spotted these cute little egg cups for me at a fun store called Bad Granny's Bazaar for $2.00! Let's just say the store is "interesting"...even a live band in the back. The cups appear to be fine china and the little yellow band on the egg cups coordinates with my plates..and cute for a breakfast table as well.
I hope whatever tempest storm passes your way you will work through it and not let it steal your joy!
Have a cup of tea and count your blessings!

Your attitude is one that I should emulate! I am thankful that you and yours are safe. When things endanger our very safety it puts life in perspective very quickly.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful and inspired table. I love blue and yellow. And I just am amazed how rich and pricey your things look and you got them at such bargain prices. That really impresses me!!!!!
This is a table I would love to spend talking and laughing away the hours. It is so happy... and just a tad Bohemian. A warm and inviting combination.
Yvonne
Sorry to hear of all the weather-caused damage you are having. I love spring but not the tornadic weather that comes with it in the midwest. I have been here 8 years and still can't get used to it. Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful table. I have a yellow plate like your blue one...just one, though! The tablecloth and napkins are perfect with the plates.
You guys are certainly getting a lot of the brunt from the spring storms. We here in Kansas have had some but not not you all. You really have a great attitude, the storms have really affected our trees and flowers to. Hopefully we will get some dry days soon to come. Your blue table is fabulous. All the decorating is splendid.

Sonia, I'm happy to hear that you and your family are safe. I know first hand the devisation that large hail and a tornado can do to ones' garden. Two years ago a funnel swept through our neighborhood. It never touched down, but left much damage in its wake. It hovered above as it swept across the path of our area. Our our huge trees were left without leaves. Once it was over we walked outside to a sea of leaves that were above my ankles. The trees are just now coming back. We were the lucky ones. Some had trees uprooted. We lost only a few windows while others had windows on an entire side of their homes blown out. It hit at midnight when most were asleep in bed.
ReplyDeleteDidn't mean to go on and on, sorry! Your blue and yellow table is certainly a ray of sunshine. You attitude is to be admired! Love the blue and yellow dishes. And to think that you found them in Austin. :-) I wish I had known you were in the area visiting. ~ Sarah
I am so glad you are safe!
ReplyDeleteyou deserve a cup of tea and your table is pure delight!
I have the same linens and they make me smile!!!
What a beautiful tablescape...luv that teapot and I'm soooo jealous of your trip to Canton...my favorite flea market!

Linda
What a pretty and enticing table. Love Blue, White and yellow!! Love all your dishes and how you layered them. Great look.
ReplyDeleteYour table is beautiful!! Glad it gave you the lift you needed after all the bad weather!!
ReplyDeleteI'm thankful that you rode out the bad weather in safety! I was very concerned about people I know all over Oklahoma and thankful to hear you and the others are safe.
ReplyDeleteThis table is just ADORABLE. I love the whole thing. It is cheerful and charming, and I love the fact that you thrifted so much of it. Great job.
Wishing you a Happy Blue Monday...
XO,
Sheila :-)
Glad to hear that you and your family are safe. I've been through two hurricanes so I know the only thing you can do is try to create some normalcy at home. The table is beautiful! Blue and white is also my favorite combo and I use it through the whole house. Love the plates, tablecloth, placemats ...actually everything!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Sherry
What a gorgeous table you set! I love the way you have put all the different things together to make such a welcoming feel. And the way you make lemonade out of lemons is inspiring. Hope the weather will leave you alone for a while. Great photos for Blue Monday.
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely things you have collected, so attractive for Blue Monday!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the bad weather, and glad you got through it.
Many Blessings - Jan
What a pretty and enticing table!
ReplyDeleteHappy BM...Luna
All I can say about your tablesetting is "WOW!"
ReplyDeleteIt looks so French Provence.
Here on the coast we have the fear of hurricanes, so every state has its woes.
Mother Nature is definitely in charge!
hugs
Sissie
Sonia, I'm sorry that y'all sustained the damage from the storms yesterday. Gosh...that was terrible hail! The kind you see once in a lifetime, hopefully. Is your garden OK?
ReplyDeleteYour table is beautiful!
The blue and yellow you used in this gorgeous tablescape is to die for!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!!
Debbie
OH my yes we okies know the weather...I was talking to my mother yesterday she was telling me what was going on. Last week a tornado passed only a couple of football fields away from her I thought it was a mile until I found out it wasn't!!! So glad you are ok..keep your eye on the weather every day in Oklahoma lol.
ReplyDeleteyou Table setting is awesome in this post I love Blue and Yellow it is just so refreshing and vibrant.
Have a great week
Brenda
Absolutely stunning! I love that color scheme too and you're right it is so cheerful!
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Kim
You are so talented. I love the french color scheme. Loved your comment about "don't let it steal your joy". That is what we say in our family when someone is being ugly to us..."don't let them steal your joy".
ReplyDeleteGreat post about our crazy weather here in OK. We woke up and had a 10 foot section of fence missing! But...could always be worse here and we too are thankful it was only a fence!
ReplyDeleteYour table is definitely cheerful...I agree, blue and yellow is cheery...just puts you in a good mood!
Nancy
you are brave to live where you do, i just couldn't handle that weather, i would be quaking in my boots... its so nice you could take such a gorgeous tea break~ i LOVE your table, and the pricing, enough to make me want to move there!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a happy, positive post! I am amazed at your beautiful collection of blues & yellows but even more astounded at your wonderfully uplifting attitude.
ReplyDeleteI am glad to hear that you didn't suffer much more damage but still, it is upsetting. Spring storms can come on so quickly & we get our fair share here in Ohio.
I just love your placemats & napkins...very Provence/French looking & very pretty.
Stay safe!
fondly,
Rett
Glad to hear that you are okay, Sonia! What a beautiful tablescape! The colors are festive and the plates amazing! Nice tablecloth too - eveerything looks great together.
ReplyDeleteOh! Those plates are just stunning! I love them! Blue and yellow are SO pretty together -- my everyday dishes include those colors with a little orange. That pear topiary is wonderful, too! I'm in Texas, and our spring weather is also scary at times. My husband is stuck in Dallas, as planes aren't flying out of DFW tonight. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you're having that horrible weather. Hopefully things will settle down and stay that way! :)
ReplyDeleteNow you've set a lovely table. Love the blue and white. Everything is so pretty and cheerful.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Very beautiful table and it's so Frenchy looking....just love it girl well thought out great job...Hugs and smiles Gl♥ria
ReplyDeleteI, too, am an Okie living in one of OKC burbs. We had sirens several times last week, but we had only garden damage. Yesterday, we missed the hail by blocks. It is what we live with here where the wind comes sweepin cross the plains. Like you, my new annuals and roses look like someone took a weedeater to them. I am not complaining, a small price to pay when some lost so much. I'll just go and buy more petunias. Stay safe!
ReplyDeleteSorry about the bad weather that's been hitting your part of the country, Sonia. I am just glad you are ok. Your table will make me feel better instantly too. So pretty, lovely colors! I love your plates, napkins, tablecloth, everything!...Christine
ReplyDeleteVery pretty yellow/blue tablescape! I'm sure it would cheer you up after all your scares with the weather in your area. Love that lemony-yellow/pear topiary as a centerpiece! Very unique piece!

I admire your spirit! You are right. Blue and yellow make a very cheery table.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty table -- you got the bad weather that we were supposed to get -- just lots of rain but thankfully no storms.
ReplyDeleteAs you know I love blue and white but blue and yellow is a close second -- very very pretty table!
Oh, I absolutely LOVE all of your tablescape. The linens, dishes and all of your accessories are seriously making me drool. Everything is just perfect. I am so sorry about all the damage and so blessed by your precious spirit. I sure hope the weather calms down soon. Thanks so much for joining the party. Great eye candy. Hugs, Marty

ReplyDeleteSo glad to know you are al right. Tornadoes scare me to death and I have only lived in Texas for 5 years now. I love your tablescape and the bright colors. My mom has those exact floral salad plates. So fun and cheery! I am hosting a new link up party on my blog..Centerpice Wednesdays. Stop by and link up. I love seeing everyone's ideas it inpsires me.

Sonia, I am sorry to hear about your wicked weather...
ReplyDeleteYour table is so pretty. I love the tablecloth and all you have on it!
I've done blue and white but haven't tried the blue and yellow - very pretty. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd with all this strange weather - we might need to watch our fields for locusts.
Yes Mother Nature is one to not be trusted. She can be in a bad mood at times. But what are we to do? We must live with her and enjoy when she is in a good mood.
ReplyDeleteI love your tablescape. I too enjoy the blue and yellow and your items are all put together just wonderful.
Hugs,
Joanne
I too live in Oklahoma City area and had friends with major home damage last week. Oh spring...love it and dread it. Your tablescape is so pretty and cheery. My very first set of dishes when I married in 1971 was a mix of blue and yellow melamine dinnerware and I loved them!! Perfect companions. Would love to have your table linens. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I have the exact same dishes and table linens! I love them, but I think I need you to set my table for me you do everything so beautifully.
ReplyDeleteI still have not heard if you received your chocolates. I'm certain they were mailed and I hope they arrived safely.
Hope you have a lovely weekend and I look forward to your next tablescape, you are the best.
Joanie
Well I now know that I am becomming feeble even as I type. I thought I was writing to someone else and you, unfortunately, are not the one that won the giveaway.....so sorry for the silly post.
