Bodacious Window Boxes

I have long been attracted to window boxes and plan on adding a large one under my front window this year.   I've been shopping online to find just the right one.

The window boxes at Butchart Gardens are the most  bodacious flower boxes I've ever seen.  When we visited the garden in  July the flowers were at peak bloom.

The combinations of flowers and size of the boxes are just breathtaking!

I have some french wire flower baskets that hang under the back windows of my home and on the brick wall outside my kitchen window.   They provide a sweet little spot of color and I enjoy changing the combinations each year.

The window boxes at Butchart are my inspiration and maybe someday I can replicate just one of them!

I can't wait until after April 1st (our last frost date) to plant my wire baskets again.  I try to find bright color combos and plants that work well together for light and watering.
They just make me happy!

Don't you just love window boxes?

  1. Hi Sonia, I like your window boxes better than those at Butchart -- theirs are just too over-the-top. Impressive but overstuffed, in my humble opinion. I know I'm probably hopelessly out of fashion, but I like simple arrangements of only one or two kinds of flowers in a pot or window box, although they do look great when the flowers are really flourishing and spilling over the side of the container or box, like Butchart's do. The Butchart gardeners really do know how to make plants flower like there's no tomorrow, don't they? I look forward to seeing your window boxes this summer -- I'm sure they'll be beautiful! Best, -Beth

  2. I love window boxes but last year I got frustrated with the brackets attached to the house. I think I needed a different kind. I hope we can make some for our retirement house as I love them (and shutters) for a cottage look.

  3. I love window boxes too! We had a few in Oklahoma that were so pretty. It's so hot here that it might be a real challenge to keep anything alive. Can't wait to see what you do. :)

  4. Sonia, I am very fond of window boxes. Thanks for the ideas! I tucked away an idea that I got from your blog in 2012 and decorate my oak secretary with a spring garland of bunnies, carrots and cabbage plates.
