Silver Sunday

Several different silver patterns
(My favorite is the Tiffany Holly Mistletoe hors d'oeuvre 7-tined fork)

What a fun idea for a blog party at Gypsy Fish and a great opportunity to get out my silver that usually occupies the drawers of the china cabinet almost the entire year.  I was fortunate to have been given my mother-in-law's silver collection last year.  Most of it hasn't been used in decades and I am of the opinion not to save things for "somedays" or  "special occasions" but to use and enjoy them since we never know when those "somedays"  will come.     I am determined this year to use special things a lot more often and make everyday special!

This is a wonderful chaffing dish and I need to find an insert since I plan on using it for a baby shower later this month.

She had two lovely candy dishes, one with engravings in the bottom and the other plain.  I think they are just beautiful.

"Santa"  brought me the runner for Christmas..I guess I was a good girl this year.  I love the silver contrasted against the black silk.

This spoon is fairly large and very ornate...it has a woman in an iris design that I've never seen before.

The cake knife/server is engraved beautifully and I will definitely be using this at the baby shower.

Lastly, she also had a set of Oneida the King Cedric pattern that is so elegant.

This was so much fun getting out silver treasures and family heirlooms.  Hope you enjoy  Silver Sunday and I can't wait to see what everyone has to share!

  1. Thanks for sharing your beautiful forks and dishes! The large spoon is gorgeous too! I totally agree on not saving all those things for special days. It's better to use them and enjoy them as often as possible.

  13. Looking at all of your gorgeous silver makes me want to shine up at least a few piece of mine! I love it tarnished also but I have that exact chafing dish and think well some would probably rather eat out of one that didn't look "dirty"! btw I bought a pyrex glass cake pan at Walmart and it fit nicely! Oh and thanks for the lesson, I have a couple of the candy dishes but had no idea that's what the were! See you soon! ~ Theresa

  15. Sonia... I just love your silver... I see above that someone else has already recommended a Pyrex dish for your chaffing dish... my sisterinlaw did the same thing... after her son accidently dropped her original dish after a holiday meal a few years ago... and it worked just fine!

thanks for stopping by French Lique... wishing you a glorious new year! Dixie

  16. Such lovely silver and things to inherit. I like how you are going to use them and not save them for a special occasion.

  20. You certainly have so many pretty silver pieces that were handed down to you. I have very few pieces since silver was out of my price point when I first was married. It is fun to see what other people have to display this week. Thank you for sharing.

  25. Oh, what beautiful silver! That spoon is so unique and so gorgeous! My mom actually has the same cake server - must have been very popular at one time and it's no wonder. I just love silver and, if I can get my act together, just might have join this group!

Yes indeed, the primroses are a very popular planter box flower in Carmel. Everything grows lush and gorgeous there!

    Happy New Year!
