Garden Walk

The weather has been crazy this spring in Oklahoma.  We had a late frost and lots of cold weather that was preceded by a brutal winter.  I've been busy working in my garden and I'm almost through cleaning out my flower beds and replacing things I've lost.

I love waking up early, grabbing a cup of coffee and walking in the garden to enjoy the sights and sounds.

Red geraniums, salvia and white alyssum are great companions in a french wire basket.

Oakleaf hydrangeas are just wonderful for our climate, although slow to get established...so worth the wait!

First little lavender sprigs from my mini-lavender garden.

Roses on the arbor

Million bells outside my kitchen window looking
into the woods behind our house.

Last week I saw the first Monarch arrive so I replaced the butterfly bushes I lost this  winter so they would have plenty of flowers to visit as they migrate through.

This butterfly is on our privet that is blooming and smells so good!

I love morning garden walks!

I'm off to the nursery...in search of white hydrangeas
 for a very shady spot.

What's blooming in your neck of the woods?

  5. Beautiful. You can't have too many lilies. You can have too many Oakleaf Hydrangeas after they get to suckering but what lovely gifts they make for another gardener.

  7. Your lilies and roses are BEAUTIFUL, Sonia! I was so happy to see the monarch. I garden for butterflies to some extent. I plant parsley, ammi majus, dill, and fennel for the black swallowtail caterpillars. I also have several kinds of milkweed for the monarchs. Butterfly weed (Asclepias tuberosa) is growing in four different places in my yard. 2 of the places I found it this year are places where I'd previously planted it but hadn't seen it in a year or two - crazy but great that it came back. The rabbits seem to like to nibble on it and it also wilts in the heat when it is first getting started. Hope it makes it as it's pretty and the butterflies like it. I've found butterflies really like pentas and verbena bonariensis so I have those planted as well. Seeing the caterpillars, and the adults, is really rewarding to me. Have a wonderful week!

  8. Hi dear Sonia, So glad you liked our little town. Did you get to go to the HUGE Farmer's Market? Next door to Splash Cafe is the Petite Soleil. Very sweet and only half a mile from our home. Happy week!

  9. Beautiful! I can't wait until we've lived here awhile and everything has the lush mature look that your garden has. I understand y'all have had some rain...that's wonderful! Keep up the good work. :)

  10. Oh my goodness Sonia, Your garden is just lovely! You have so many of my favorites too. The Winter was rough here too. Many lost here lost their tender flowering bushes and vines...some trees too. My knockout roses were hit hard at the beginning of Spring . I had to trim them back so they are slowly coming back to life.. Thanks for sharing the beauty of your garden.. Have a great weekend! Blessings!
