I love traveling and no matter where I go I enjoy the flowers and plants of the region. We went on our first trip to Santa Fe and I fell in love with the entire area and the flowers growing everywhere!
This geranium was a focal point at the front door of a little shoppe. The color of the bench highlighted the splash of red.
My favorite flowers had to be the hollyhocks growing in front of adobe walls, houses and shoppes. I've always loved hollyhocks in English gardens and was surprised to see them in so many Santa Fe gardens. The combination is so pretty and the blossoms are perfect vertical
spots of color.
There is such a variety of colors.
This sidewalk garden included an old ladder.
Sun-loving yarrow and a red rose bush.
Cactus and hollyhocks...what a combination.
A beautiful rose bush along the street.
Santa Fe is a rich combination of culture, land, art, food and plants..a perfect place to visit!

Hollyhocks!!! check out my site and tell me how long I have to wait before I see plants like the ones in your post. Mine look healthy, but are so small I can't picture them getting this big this season. Are they another one that gets better year after year?
ReplyDeleteLooks like a wonderful place to visit. I love that old ladder along the sidewalk! Where do you even find one like that??

Sweet Up-North Mornings...
Thanks for sharing beautiful flower pictures. I love geraniums and they do pop perfectly against that bench. I also think that ladder is just too cute!
ReplyDeleteGrab your favorite recipe to serve guests and share at the hospitality party this week if you get a chance!
Have a great week!
Sonia, I grew up in NM, so I am very familiar with hollyhocks and cactus. We use to make little dolls out of the blooms. Don't remember how, exactly- it's a fading memory. LOL
ReplyDeleteIt's been a few years since I've been home, so it was nice to see pics of the adobe and the bright blue accent color for windows and doors. Love that color! Thanks for sharing your trip with us.
:-) Sue
Love those hollyhocks! I must add those to the garden.
ReplyDeleteLovely post, Sonia!
Very Nice! Love the pictures of the hollyhocks next to the adobe walls. Very interesting contrast. I've always wanted to visit Santa Fe, this post just reminded me to figure out a way to do that, soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the sweet comments lately, sorry I've been so slow returning for a visit. Lots going on around here!

I was astounded by the beauty of New Mexico and Arizona, too. Happy Pink Saturday!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post. Love the holly hocks! I am now following you so I can see more pink pretties!
ReplyDeleteHappy PS,
Jacalyn
While we've driven through New Mexico I've never lived there but I hear it's beautiful, sugar. I especially love the photos you shared with us today. Just beautiful. They seem an odd contrast to the cactus (we live in the desert) but they sure are lovely next to it. Nice to meet you and happy pink saturday.

First let me say that your blog is just beautiful! It's new to me but somehow familiar.
ReplyDeleteYour photo's of the Southwest home (?)are lovely. The desert is a lovely place to visit but I don't think I would like to live there.
Even where I live there is not near enough green and waterways to suit me.
It makes you want to right out and plants some Hollyhocks. :)
I was so pleased to see your pictures of the Hollyhocks, My yard is full of them, but they haven't bloomed yet, I hope they are pretty too.
ReplyDeleteThe setting of the adobe makes them so pretty. Thanks for sharing.
Have a great wkend.

You captured the roses in front of the Inn on the Alameda at their peak! Wonderful, aren't they? Thanks for letting people know that Santa Fe is a mountain desert, not an Arizona desert, and when the rains come, the city blooms!
