Hydrangeas-My Favorites!!

This month my hydrangeas are at their peak so I thought I would share some of my favorites.

This is a varitey that can tolerate more sun than most ...I love the pink and purple blooms and leathery foilage.  Wish I could find the plant tag or remember the name of this one as it does great in
our hot summers!

The hydrangeas below are all 'Nikko Blue' a tried and true variety and easy to find.

My hydrangea border is behind my house and only gets the east morning sun...they love this location and share it with our resident turtle Mr. "T" who has been out and about again.

The oakleaf hydrangea is in the foreground..first white elongated blooms that turn lime green.

The variety is 'Nikko Blue' but some do bloom more pink so I just add more organic material like peat moss or pecan hulls to make the ph of the soil more acidic.   I don't mind if some are pink  as it just adds more color to my border.

No matter what color they are I just love these big mopheads!!    Right now I am having to give them plenty of extra waterings as the temperatures are above 100 degrees.

As summer heat turns to fall the blooms turn a wonderful lime green with touches of mauve..and that's when I cut them for drying in arrangements.

If you've never grown them I highly recommend you give them a try... with a little extra care you won't be disappointed!

  4. Love hydrangeas! Is there anything better than a bouquet of hydrangeas with a few roses and a sprig or two of lavender thrown in for good measure? Mmmm.....

    Happy Pink Saturday!

  5. You know, it's funny, I love hydrangeas but I don't grow any! What's up with that? The one I most want is the oak-leaf hydrangea. Maybe I'll get one this fall......

In the meantime, thank you so much for sharing yours! Happy Pink Saturday.

  9. Your hydrangeas are gorgeous. I have one in a large container trying to find a place it really likes in my postage stamp backyard ... too much sun, not enough ... when it's happy ... into the ground it goes! Lovely post!

  12. Your hydrangeas are looking beautiful. I grow lots and lots of hydrangeas as well and they aren't looking the greatest at the moment with our heat and lack of rain. I have been using my irrigation system but it just isn't the same as what drops from the sky. I noticed you have an ad on your blog for Gumps. I just recently purchased a Russell Trusso piece. He is such an amazing artist.

  14. WOW, your hydrangeas are so gorgeous! I've got the buds right now - they look like they're gong to be gorgeous - but so far, no flowers! Keeping my fingers crossed they turn out as stunning as yours!! I came by via Susan's party, but I missed it myself. I took pics of my pergola all dressed up this afternoon (with the 2 hour lull in the rain), and I REALLY hope you'll stop by and take a peak, and let me know what you think of the progress! :)

  16. I'm so jealous of your lovely hydrangeas! Mine aren't blooming at all this year. But....they are not planted in the best spots. I'm going to plant some next spring on the east side of my house. I can't believe I've missed out on your blog. I live in Oklahoma City. I came over from Poofing the Pillows as she decided to feature some of her local blog favorites. Just thought I'd say hi and that I'll be reading from now on. Added you to my blog roll and am following.
